Types of sentences {FREEBIE}

We did a quick little review today over the types of sentences.  I had my kiddos make a flipbook with three sections.  We labeled each section with the three types of sentences.  They had to fill out the end mark on the sentences and then cut them out and place them under the correct sentence type!!

The firsties loved making the flip books and it was an easy assessment tool for me to see who knows their sentence types and what they each end with.

Click on the picture below for some sentences your kiddos can mark and glue in their flipbooks!!

Teacher Appreciation Week {Freebie}

Being a teacher myself, I know how important it is to make our teachers feel loved.  I have two daughters in 3rd grade and preschool and this is what we did for their teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week!

How cute are those ladybug pots??  I also included a Sonic Gift Card, who doesn't love a delicious drink from there.  The little sign says, "Thanks for helping me BLOOM this year."  If you would like the tag click on the picture below!!

Thanks to all teachers out there who make me love my profession!!!

Teacher Talk Tuesday!

O.K. so I am finally getting the hang of this Instagram thing! It's a pretty cool thing once you get the hang of it and I'm sure there are many other things you can do with it, just need to learn the ropes!!

Here are my photos for #teachertalktuesday, click on the pictures to follow me on Instagram!!!

This is our gumball math from Made for 1st Grade!  I created the large gumball machine to go with their little gumball machines.  Once a student passes a level, they get to add a gumball.

We finally got our seeds planted, they are morning glories and I am hoping they germinate before we are out of school in 13 days!!!

Are you on a final countdown to summer?  How many days do you have left?
Don't forget, come follow me on Instagram!!

Making Clouds and 20 Days!!!

We only have 20 more days until SUMMER!!!!  I am stoked and so ready for a vacation, with the two girls and the baby, I can't seem to stay caught up on anything.  And laundry, wow did that triple when you add a 5th person to the family!!!

Anyways, just a quick post for you all tonight!  We are still working on our weather unit, it seems we just aren't getting through things as quickly with all the end of the year activities and such.  Speaking of  the end of the year, does anybody else have a zillion assessments to get done. Oh my, I have yet to give our Reading Benchmark, RIGBY, STAR Math, End of the year math assessment, and the list goes on!! Then of course the grading, UGH!!  20 more days, 20 more days, I can do it!!!

Back to weather, we have been studying clouds and this week we will be making our very own clouds in our classrooms.  All you need is a bar of Ivory Soap, wax paper, and a microwave.  Stick the bar in for 90 seconds and VOILA, you have made a cloud.  I of course had to practice this at home with my little 3 year old, and here it is!!

Pretty cool, huh! I can't wait to see my firsties faces when this happens.  Off to bed I go, it's only a matter of time before the little guy wakes up and is hungry, so I need to catch my ZZZ's while I can!!  Have a great week you all!!

Making Inferences!!

Making Inferences is such a hard reading strategy for first graders.  Even when I taught 7th grade Reading, my seventh graders struggled with it.  So I tried to make a connection with something they were a little more familiar with and I came up with the part-part-whole model we use in math.  My kiddos have a really good grasp of how to use the part-part-whole model in math so why not use the same model for making inferneces.  So, I came up with this little comparison.  Students need to use their schema {part} plus what they read {part} to make the inference {whole}.  Pick up this little poster by clicking on the picture.  Be sure to leave me a comment and let me know what you think!!
